Carnival celebration in Guangzhou!
According to the tradition already established in Guangzhou, on Sunday, February 26, everyone gathered at 10 a.m. at the restaurant “Ukraine” to celebrate the end of Shrovetide week in warm company and spend the winter.
Compatriots from Guangzhou, Foshan, and Dongguan gathered. Despite the cold weather, many came with children.
We reached the Huadu waterfalls quickly, with cheerful conversations in pleasant company. Olga was the conductor and guide.
Upon arrival, the first thing we decided to do was set the tables. Everyone prepared and tried their best for the celebration of Maslenitsa, no one stayed away. There were many different dishes on the table, everyone brought something delicious from home, well, something intoxicating.
Of course, on Shrovetide, as it should be, pancakes were the main dish on the table.
After a light snack, a strong half of the audience took up cooking meat, and creatively minded participants and participants engaged in the construction of a traditional stuffed Carnival. The process turned out to be so fascinating that we got a couple – a “woman” and a “man”.
Both scarecrows turned out to be very cute, fashionable, with distinctive features so that no one would confuse where the “man” is and where the “woman” is.
While the woman was being dressed up, the first batch of meat arrived. Our men did well, they did it perfectly! The meat turned out to be tender, juicy, and no one was left hungry.
We are very lucky! There were musicians in the company who entertained us with music and songs! Lyosha and his daughter Vika played the flute for us, Zhenya played the guitar, and we sang songs, talked and just rested.
The children were also not left without entertainment. Their parents organized various contests with prizes and gifts for them.
And now the climax has come – the solemn burning of the “byba” with the “man”. No matter how sorry it was to part with them, but we must spend the winter! We missed the warm weather so much. At parting, collective and personal photos with Symbols of the passing winter were taken.
Under the general rejoicing, our cute “man” and “woman” were burned.
Everything was very cool! Thanks to the participants, organizers and inspirers.
It was nice to note that this time there was no “group recreation”, which often scares newcomers to join mass events, everyone had fun together, sang songs and warmly communicated. I hope that everyone was satisfied with the celebration of Maslenitsa in Guangzhou.
A collective photo for memory.
The next departure, according to tradition, is on May 9th. I hope to see familiar and new faces!
